Conditions

Conditions of the noseand sinuses.

What the practice assesses and treats, written for patients: what each condition is, how it is diagnosed, and the options with their trade-offs. Start with whichever describes your situation. If none of them quite fits, the last section is for you.

How Care Is Organised

Assessment first. Then the options are yours.

Every condition on this page can be caused by more than one thing, and several of them mimic each other. A blocked nose may be the septum, the turbinates, the nasal valve, the lining, or polyps; facial pressure may be sinusitis or migraine; smell loss may be conductive or nerve-related. The first visit therefore exists to establish the diagnosis, with a history, an internal examination and nasal endoscopy where indicated, before any treatment is discussed.

From there the options are laid out side by side: what each involves, what it can offer, and what it asks of you. Leaving things alone is always on the list where it is reasonable. Surgery is offered when examination, imaging and a genuine trial of medical therapy say it is the right tool, not as a first resort. You are under no obligation to decide anything at the first visit, and independent national resources are there for anyone who would like to read further before deciding.

Getting Seen

One pathway for medical concerns.

Patients

Ask your family physician, walk-in physician or nurse practitioner to fax a referral to (905) 639-2253. The office contacts you to arrange the consultation. Assessment is OHIP-insured when medically indicated. The two pathways.

Referring physicians

What to include so the referral can be triaged on the day it arrives, how urgency is handled for nasal fractures and CT-confirmed polyps, and a printable referral form. Referral information.

Not sure it fits?

Call the office at (905) 639-2244. Calls are answered at any hour by the practice's AI phone assistant, which takes your details and passes anything it cannot settle to the office team. How calls are handled.

Start with the diagnosis.

The procedures the practice performs are described on their own pages. The conditions above explain when, and whether, each one is the right tool.
